Stellar goaltending by Leo Lazarev kept this game close, but the 67’s eventually fell 2-1 to the CHL’s top ranked team, the Erie Otters.

It was a tight-checking match through the first 40, with the 67’s and Otters exchanging one goal each in the opening period. Nick Betz got Erie on the board first. Then rookie Austen Keating buried his sixth of the season to even the score.

A heavy bodycheck by Trent Mallette forced the turnover that led to Keating’s goal, as the first-year forward played a top-six role tonight with both Jeremiah Addison and Travis Konecny out of the lineup.

There was no scoring in the second, as Lazarev and Ottawa’s penalty killers held off the leauge’s number-two ranked power play on two opportunities that period.

The final frame saw the Otters break the 1-1 stalemate with a goal by forward Jake Marchment, proving to be the game winner.

The 67’s are back in action on Sunday December 13 to face off against the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds in the team’s annual Holiday Game, which will include the popular and spectacular Teddy Bear Toss, along with a Sing for Santa feature and autographs with the players after the game. As an added bonus, the 67’s will also host choirs from around the region leading the crowd in Christmas carols.
