67’s appoint Norm Milley as Assistant Coach

With the puck set to drop on the Ottawa 67’s 50th Anniversary Season with the opening of training camp on Wednesday, the hockey club rounded out its coaching staff with the appointment of former OHL standout Norm Milley.

“Norm has tremendous hockey sense and a terrific knowledge of the game at so many levels, so we’re excited to add another element of experience to our coaching staff,” said head coach and VP Hockey Operations André Tourigny. “He’s enjoyed success at every level where’s he has played – OHL, NHL, AHL, Europe – and has always been a leader in his teams and brings another element of experience and character to our coaching staff.”

The Toronto native has spent the last nine seasons playing in Germany in the Deutsche Eishockey Liga (DEL) most recently in Düsseldorf after spending his first seven seasons with Wolfsburg. Milley announced his retirement following the 2016-17 season after 17 seasons of pro hockey.

“I’m very excited and honoured to have this chance,” said Milley. “With the coaching and management staff in place here, I know that I am also going to learn a lot. I’ve always enjoyed working with younger hockey players and I will take my experiences from pro hockey and try to instill that into the development of these young players.”

Well over a point-per-game player in the OHL, Milley was selected by the Buffalo Sabres in the 2nd round (47th overall) of the 1998 NHL Entry Draft. He would spend most of his five seasons in Buffalo with the Sabres’ AHL affiliate in Rochester before signing with the Tampa Bay Lightning spending three seasons there split between their AHL affiliates in Springfield and Norfolk before making his move to Europe.
