67’s solidify hold on playoff spot with convincing win over Generals

PLAY-BY-PLAY | BOXSCORE

The Ottawa 67’s took an early lead Friday night and never looked back, shutting out the Oshawa Generals 7-0 and tightening their grip on sixth place in the OHL’s Eastern Conference.

In a possible preview of a first-round playoff series, it was all Ottawa in this one as the Barber Poles got scoring from throughout the lineup and a strong outing from goalie Leo Lazarev.

Defenceman Chris Martenet opened the scoring 22 seconds into the game and the 67’s built up their lead from there. Ottawa exploded for four goals in the second period as Mathieu Foget, Artur Tyanulin, Travis Barron and and Zack Dorval found the back of the net to quiet the crowd at the Tribute Communities Centre. Foget added four assists on the night, while Tyanulin had three helpers.

Austen Keating and Noel Hoefenmayer scored in the third as the 67’s got goals from seven different players.

Lazarev made 26 saves for the shutout while Oshawa’s Jeremy Brodeur and Kyle Keyser split goaltending duties.

The 67’s close out the weekend in Hamilton against the Bulldogs on Sunday before returning home Wednesday afternoon to host Peterborough in a special March Break matinee.
