This past January, one of our beloved Guest Services employees, Warren Stone, passed away suddenly. Warren worked at the Urbandale Centre on game nights for five years assisting fans ensuring that their game experience was the best it could be. He had a strong impact on all of those he came in contact with, especially his colleagues at the Ottawa 67’s Hockey Club.
In speaking with the Guest Services staff, they revealed Warren to have been a loving husband and father as well as a dedicated and loyal co-worker...and a wonderful friend. His easy smile warmed the hearts of all who came in contact with him and it was clear that making others happy was his own path to happiness in his life.
His presence in our lives and at our games will continue to be truly missed by both staff and fans alike.
Below is a poem written by our own Barbara Holford-Walker that sits at Gate 1 in memory of Warren.
Ode to Gate 4
He stood at the Gate, and welcomed them all
Coming in from the cold, in winter or fall
For many a year, he took to his space
In a dress shirt and tie, not a hair out of place
After the whistle he moved through the crowd
To speak to the fans and to quiet the loud
He watched with an eye, from his circle of gold
And kept folks in line, even when they were bold
For years he stood watch, n’er missing his place
He loved what he did, you could see on his face
The pride that he held of a team he was part
A feeling he kept so dear to his heart.
We stand here before you, with a tear in our eye
To bid you farewell, and not say goodbye
We will see you again, when timing is right
We thank you for coming, and have a good night.
