The Ottawa 67’s followed up their impressive road performance last night with a big win on home ice this afternoon against the Flint Firebirds. Goaltender Leo Lazarev stood tall making 30 saves and Dante Salituro led the offence with a two-goal performance in the 4-1 win to round out another solid weekend for the Barberpoles.

In the opening period, Lazarev turned aside all 12 shots he faced and a late powerplay goal got the 67’s the 1-0 lead heading into the intermission. Nathan Todd, who has points in four consecutive games, delivered a cross-ice pass to Dante Salituro who scored his 24th of the season.

The 67’s continued where they left off in the first by extending their lead to 2-0 after Nathan Todd again setup Salituro who tallied his second powerplay goal of the game and 25th of the season. Lazarev stopped all 10 shots he faced as the 67’s carried a 2-0 lead into the final period.

The 67’s put the game away inside the opening three minutes of the third period with a pair of goals. Ben Fanjoy scored his 13th of the season with an impressive shot that beat Firebirds goalie Brent Moran top shelf. Two minutes later Nevin Guy got in on the action as Ottawa stood with. 4-0 lead. The Firebirds would, at long last, solve Lazarev minutes later, but the 67’s would take the win 4-1 – their fourth win in their last six games.

On the weekend, the 67’s gave one of the top teams in the Eastern Conference, the Niagara Ice Dogs all they could handle on Friday, had a great team win last night against the Petes and another win this afternoon on home ice. Coach and GM Jeff Brown said “I was proud of the effort in all 3 games this weekend.”

The 67’s return to action next Friday, January 22 against the Oshawa Generals for a7:00 p.m puck drop.
