67’s d-man with chance to represent Belarus at World Junior Championship

Towering 67’s defenceman Stepan Falkovsky has been invited to Belarus’ National Junior Team Selection Camp.

The 6’9″ eighteen-year old is likely to be the only CHL player to represent Belarus at the 2016 IIHF World Junior Hockey Championship in Helsinki, Finland. This will mark the first time Belarus will compete in the holiday time tournament since 2007.

They won the 2015 IIHF Ice Hockey U20 World Championship Division I Group A in Asiago, Italy to gain entry into the WJHC.

Falkovsky currently leads the 67’s blue line in scoring with seven goals and eight assists in 29 games, and also boasts a team best +9 plus-minus rating.

The native of Minsk, Belarus, was Ottawa’s only selection in the 2015 CHL Import Draft and has been a pleasure to watch play for the 67’s this season. GM/head coach Jeff Brown has relied heavily upon Falkovsky this year, and the Belarusian d-man has been up to every task.

Belarus starts their 2016 World Junior Hockey Championship on December 26th with a game against the host nation, Finland.
