Ottawa 67’s Players Celebrate High School Graduation

Sunday June 19, 2022 on the TD Place Field was a milestone day for six of the Ottawa 67’s players.  Derek Smyth, Matthew Mayich, Brady Stonehouse and Collin MacKenzie along with their family members attended the Grade 12 graduation ceremony from Blyth Academy The Glebe on a glorious sunny Father’s Day afternoon. Thomas Sirman and Will Gerrior, also graduates were unable to attend but were celebrated as well.

As student-athletes, these young men are not just stellar on the ice but hardworking and focused students off the ice.  Amongst these graduates receiving their Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) from Blyth Academy Principal Kristy Larose are several Ontario scholars (grade 12 average of 80% and over in their 6 best grade 12 courses). Three have also been accepted to attend part-time university programs in September 2022 while playing for the 67’s.

All six of them will be taking post-secondary courses in September along with their fellow teammates already in university and college. The Ottawa 67’s and OSEG teams are very proud of you. You persisted through a challenging two years of covid 19 restrictions both on and off of the ice, exhibiting both resilience and determination! Congratulations!

“I am extremely proud of these graduating student athletes and their fellow teammates who have all shown the ability to balance the rigorous daily schedule on and off the ice. The ongoing support of teachers, parents, coaches, tutors and billets, have all played key roles in the player’s academic successes.” – Academic Advisor, Eileen Duffin
