67’s aim for turnaround on home ice

The Ottawa 67’s will return to the comforts of TD Place, looking to convert their home advantage to victories. They’re coming off a tough road trip that saw them lose four consecutive games for the first time this season. The 67’s will be keen to arrest that slide during this weekend’s games against Barrie Colts and Soo Greyhounds.

The Barber Poles will be banking on their 7-3-0-0 record at TD Place to help reverse the recent trend of results. They will have to wary though because the Colts are one of those three teams they have lost to at home this season, while the Greyhounds are on a 11-game winning streak.

The 67’s will take heart from the fact that despite those four away losses, they’re still just five points off the top spot in the East. This division is proving to be extremely competitive with just nine points separating the five teams.

The Opposition

Barrie Colts (14-7-2-1)

The Colts currently top the Central with a four-point margin to the second-placed Niagara IceDogs. This is despite them losing three out of their last five games. The Colts won their last game against North Bay snapping a two-game losing skid. The 67’s lost to the Colts at TD Place four weeks ago and have fallen in both meetings to Barrie this season.

Soo Greyhounds (20-3-2-0)

The last time the Greyhounds lost a game was in October against the Sarnia Sting. Since then they have won 11 consecutive games, scoring 58 goals (5.27 per game) while conceding just 26 (2.36 per game). The 67’s will have to watch out for Boris Katchouk who, with 22 goals, is currently the joint OHL top-scorer. The 67’s have lost four of the last five meetings against the Greyhounds but the last time these two sides met it was the Barber Poles who won thanks to an overtime winner from Kody Clark.

Game Notes

  • The 67’s are fourth in the OHL with a penalty kill of 81.8%.
  • Sasha Chmelevski has scored points in three consecutive games and has points in eight of his last nine games to lead the team with 26.
  • Graeme Clarke has now scored in three straight games.
