67’s Head North Looking to Get Back on Winning Track

Less than a month in the regular season calendar and the Ottawa 67’s are back on the road this weekend for another lengthy road trip, as Jeff Brown’s men will do the Northern tour, starting Thursday night in North Bay, followed by a stop in Sault Ste. Marie on Saturday night before wrapping up their travels Sunday afternoon in Sudbury.

The Barber Poles will be looking to continue their success on the road this weekend boasting an impressive record of 3-1-1 away from home in five games this season. 67’s head coach and GM Jeff Brown believes that perhaps there is less pressure on the road for his young squad.

“Young guys tend to come together on the road,” said Brown. “I think sometimes we put too much pressure on ourselves here at home, so to have another long road trip like this will be good for us. It will give our guys the opportunity to bond and hopefully we can get back on the winning track.”

In road games this season, the 67’s have scored 24 goals and have lost only one game in regular time – 5-4 against the Flint Firebirds. Team Captain and third-year winger Travis Barron – who has picked up three points in his last three games (1G, 2A) – agrees with his coach’s thoughts and thinks this second road trip will be beneficial for the group.

“It’s going to be a huge road trip for us,” said Barron. “We had a though weekend last week and going forward we need this wins. It’s a tough road trip, far from home, but the guys are excited. We came together pretty close, pretty fast, so to get a second road trip like this early in the season is nice.”

Barron thinks his teammates and him only need to keep things simple.

“We need to tighten things up defensively again.” added Barron. “We have to take care of the little things on the ice and do our job. We will have to outwork the opponents and as simple as it sounds, it’s all we need.”

On the ice, local centerman Patrick White has been on a hot run lately, as the Orléans native will be looking to extend his three-game scoring streak this weekend. The hometown veteran is delighted by his recent form and hopes to keep things going during the weekend.

“I’m feeling very good lately,” said White. “It’s nice to finally score goals after all the chances I had in the previous games. I hope I can keep this going over the weekend.”

Just like Baron, White believes his team needs to stop forcing plays and just keep it simple.

“On the road we keep things simple and we do the right things,” added White. “We limit our mistakes and we make the right plays. We don’t force things and that is the key to our success and that’s what we need to do during this road trip.”

The 67’s will begin their three games in four nights Thursday against the North Bay Battalion, who picked up a 2-1 win at TD Place last weekend with a late third period goal.
