Knights escape 67’s in shootout

They carried the play for the majority of the contest, but the Ottawa 67’s fell 1-0 to the London Knights in a shootout, Friday night at Budweiser Gardens.

Max Donoso was brilliant in goal, stopping all 25 shots he faced in 65 minutes of play, and with the shootout winner barely squeaking through him for the deciding marker.

Though the 67’s controlled the shots on goal totals for the game’s entirety, neither team could find the back of the goal, and headed to the third period in a scoreless tie. Both went 0/3 on the powerplay, but London’s best chances came in the first, when Donoso made a stretch pad save on George Diaco, and pulled a loose puck off the goal line soon after.

Despite a frenetic third period, where both Donoso, and Knights goaltender Brett Brochu were called upon to make some marvellous saves, these two teams went to overtime.

Both teams saw glorious chances in the overtime frame, but couldn’t beat the opposing net minder, and Diaco tallied the only goal of the shootout, for a 1-0 Knights victory.
