May 16, 2013 (Ottawa ON.): The Ottawa 67’s today announced the signing of their top two picks in the 2013 OHL Priority Selection Draft. Centre Travis Konecny, drafted first overall, and defenseman Troy Henley, drafted 20th overall, will both be on the ice when the 67’s hold their training camp this summer.
“We’re delighted to officially welcome Travis and Troy to the 67’s family,” said Head Coach and General Manager Chris Byrne. “Both players will be key building blocks for our team and I’m sure our fans will enjoy seeing them in action for the next several seasons.”
16-year old Konecny earned his first overall selection by leading the Elgin-Middlesex Chiefs to the Alliance Hockey championship this past season, during which he scored 53 goals and recorded 114 points in 54 games. 16-year old Hanley, a native of Paulsboro NJ, anchored the defense on the Oakville Rangers Minor Midget team that won the OHL Cup this past season.
The 67’s will once again play their home games in Scotiabank Place this coming season. They’ll return to their traditional home at Lansdowne Park once construction is completed in June of 2014.
