During the season, Welch and Company LLP Chartered Accountants will be providing awards to the Ottawa 67’s players who have enjoyed success at school . Each month from October to February, one player will be selected to receive the award. The candidate must demonstrate commitment to school (attendance, attitude, etc), have good to excellent academic achievement and must be enrolled in two or more courses each semester. A cheque for $100.00 will be presented on the ice at a home game on October 22, November 19, December 17, January 21 and February 18. At the end of the season, three special awards will be given. The prestigious Bobby Smith Award is given by the OHL to the player who best combines excellence in hockey with academic success. The Ivan Tennant Award is given to the high school player who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to school. The Roger Neilson Award is given to the post-secondary player who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to school. The Ottawa 67’s nominate a player for each of these three awards in March.
The Academic Award winner for February is Cody Ceci. Cody is in his fourth year of high school. He is a Grade 12 student who is taking three courses. He consistently shows commitment to succeeding in school, has a positive attitude and a good work ethic. Congratulations on the excellent work at school Cody!
