Draft Central

October 6th marks one of the most important and anticipated nights of the hockey season, The 2020 NHL Draft. Although this year will look different, it will still be a night to remember for many junior hockey players. The Ottawa 67’s have multiple players who are preparing to hear their names announced by one of the NHL teams. Two of those players are projected to go in the first round, Marco Rossi and Jack Quinn. As we count down until October 6th, we will be highlighting all players who are in their draft year.

Marco Rossi

Whichever NHL team lands Marco Rossi in the upcoming NHL Entry Draft will be getting a special player.

That’s not conjecture; the proof is in the pudding, as they say. Or in Rossi’s case, the proof is usually in the back of the net.

Considered by most in the hockey world to be a slam dunk to go early in the first round, Rossi has been nothing short of exceptional for the Ottawa 67’s since the Barber Poles selected him 18th overall in the 2018 OHL Import Draft. READ MORE

Jack Quinn

When it comes to elite hockey players, some weren’t always that “can’t miss, blue chip” prospect.

Sometimes a bit more time, a bit more hard work and people to start paying attention for a young player to really morph into a bonafide, top-flight, NHL draft option.

In the hockey world, these types of players are sometimes referred to as late bloomers, a moniker hung on Jack Quinn at various times this season when he exploded for 52 goals in 62 OHL regular season games in his year of NHL draft eligibility, finding the back of the net 40 more times than he did his rookie campaign in 2018-19. Catching the eyes of many NHL teams:

Will Cranley

Cranley made great strides throughout the season and opened the eye of many NHL scouts with his big frame, his athleticism and his calmness in the crease.  His work with 67’S goalie coach Charlie MacTavish payed off big time, as he was ranked fourth best North American goalie by NHL Central Scouting in their final rankings, a huge jump from his midterm rank of 16th.

Let’s take an in-close look on what caused this jump up in the rankings and why Cranley has a great chance to hear his name called on Draft day in October. READ MORE

Alec Belanger

Alec Belanger is one of the most curious cases when it comes to the potential 67’s draftees.  Playing on the wing and at defence during the year, Belanger not only showed of good of a team player he is by taking on any role he was asked to fill by Head Coach Andre Tourigny, but he also showed off his versatility by playing many positions and still managing to quadruple his production from his rookie OHL season (from 8 points to 32 points).

Although Belanger may not be ranked on the NHL’s Central Scouting list, teams have been calling 67’s General Manager James Boyd about him and his chances at hearing his name called on NHL Draft day are very real. MORE

Cam Tolnai

A few other 67’s players that have proven to be essential parts of the incredible 2019-2020 season could easily get their names called by an NHL franchise in the next few days. Anthony Costantini and Cam Tolnai are both eligible for the 2020 draft. Costantini led all OHL rookies with a plus-21 rating after a solid season for the 67’s at the blue line, while Tolnai, a 6-foot-1 center, has been a constant player for the 67’s playing in 108 games with the club since 2018.
