With 25 wins in 34 home games during the regular season, fans had high expectations for the Ottawa 67’s heading into playoff games 1 and 2 at TD Place against Niagara. But 16 goals? Ottawa’s 8-5 win in the opener last Thursday was followed by an 8-2 victory on Saturday and now the scene shifts to St. Catharines for game 3 of the series tonight.

Dante Salituuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuro was named OHL Player of the Week earlier today after contributing four goals and three assists in the two Ottawa wins.

The IceDogs were almost as good on home ice as the 67’s this year with 24 wins in 34 games. They were 1-1 against the 67’s and that victory was by an 8-3 margin.  If the IceDogs win tonight or Wednesday then the series will shift back to TD Place for an evening game on Good Friday, April 3rd.

Playing for the number on the front has been the 67’s motto heading into the first round and the “team first” mentality has been paying off so far. Long-time fans are no doubt remembering the 67’s team in 2001 that unexpectedly captured the OHL title. That team, like this one, started the playoffs with one stripe of eyeblack on each player’s face. After each series victory, another stripe was added. Here’s to a 4-stripe playoff year!
