Sunrise, FL- Ottawa 67’s Captain Travis Konecny was selected 24th overall in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers.

Moments after seeing his dream of making the NHL come true, Konecny was all smiles, saying “I can’t really describe the feeling, walking up on that stage and joining the Philadelphia Flyers, what an organization to be apart of.  I am happy for my family and all my supporting friends that are going through this with me. I really want to give a shout out to my brother, he couldn’t be here today but he’s a big reason of why I am here, he is my biggest fan.”

Konecny said he had no idea he was going to be selected by the Philadelphia Flyers. “I wasn’t sure since the Combine, it was nerve racking sitting in my seat with my parents shaking but we got through it.”

Flyers General Manager Ron Hextall praised Konecny saying “he brings speed, skill, competiveness and is the Captain of his junior team.  He has a heart of a lion and that’s huge for us. We believe he will be a successful player.”

Earlier today, I spoke to Ottawa 67’s Coach and GM Jeff Brown who was very happy to be here in Florida for his Captain’s big day, saying “I am really excited for him, this is a really special day for him.” Brown noted that the key to Konecny’s leadership success is his work ethic, saying “everyone wants their captain to lead by example, that’s the type of player he is, when he jumps on the ice you know your getting 100 percent and the rest of the guys follow suit.”
