MISSISSAUGA — Thomas Lattavo scored for the first time in his Ontario Hockey League career late in the third to lift the Mississauga Steelheads to a 3-2 victory over the Ottawa 67’s, the fourth straight loss for Ottawa.
Lattavo, playing in just his 13th OHL game, beat Ottawa goalie Leo Lazarev for the winning goal with 4:14 remaining in regulation.
The loss leaves the 67’s in fourth place in the OHL’s Eastern Conference standings. Ottawa has five games remaining, including one at home on Friday, March 13 against the top-ranked Oshawa Generals.
The 67’s sit just three points ahead of fifth-place Niagara IceDogs on the Eastern table, but the IceDogs have played one less game. Ottawa is hoping to retain the fourth position, which would guarantee home-ice advantage in the opening round of the playoffs, which begin later this month.
Brendan Bell and Travis Konecny scored for the 67’s. Nathan Todd had an assist on each of Ottawa’s goals.
Steelheads goalie Cameron Zanussi made 36 stops.
The game against Oshawa at TD Place on this Friday begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are available at the here or by calling 613-232-6767.
