Despite a 2-1 shootout loss to the Oshawa Generals on Wednesday night, the Ottawa 67’s extended their streak without a regulation loss to 20 games.
The 67’s are now 16-0-3 in their last 20 games and continue to sit comfortably atop the OHL and in second place in the entire CHL.
Sasha Chmelevski scored for Ottawa at the Arena at TD Place, while Cedrik Andree was strong once again in stopping 31 of 32 shots. Jack Studnicka scored in regulation for the Generals.
Chmelevski opened the scoring early in the first period, shoveling the puck over the goalie’s shoulder with his backhand for his 8th goal of the year.
Ottawa outshot the Generals 11-7 in the second, but no one was able to find the back of the net.
Jack Studnicka tied the game up 7:55 into the third frame, which would be the goal that sent the game to overtime.
Overtime may not have delivered a goal, but it delivered a ton of excitement without declaring a winner and a shootout was necessary. Chmelevski and Felhaber both missed on their attempts and the Generals capitalized to get a win.
What they said
André Tourigny, Head Coach
‘’Both goalies were really good, I think Ceddy kept us in it, especially in the first period when we had a slow start. I really like the effort from our guys, I’m proud of them. They were tired but they dug deep and found a way to get the momentum back’’.
- With this shootout loss, the 67’s extend their streak to 20 straight games picking up at least a point in the standings. During this streak, they have a record of 16-0-3-1, picking up 36 out of a possible 40 points.
- With a goal today, Sasha Chmelevski sees his point streak extended to five games. He has picked up 10 points during that span.
- This was only Cedrick Andree’s 4th loss this year out of 21 starts. He has only lost two games in regulation time this year.
